‘Silent disasters’ such as traffic accidents are one of the leading causes of untold death and suffering in Jordan. Thousands fall victim to traffic accidents every year. Much of the loss can be prevented through education and raising the awareness of both drivers and pedestrians.

The economic costs of this ongoing disaster are enormous and constitute a burden on the well being of many people who find themselves forced to cover costs themselves, only minimum insurance is obligatory in the country.

The Jordan Red Crescent has been actively advocating – at high political decision making level - to mobilize a comprehensive campaign to educate, raise awareness and change people’s attitudes toward driving, increase their respect of traffic laws and improve behaviors that are leading to this tragic loss of life.

The JRC has been involved in holding coordination meetings for stakeholders as well as printing and distributing leaflets to raise awareness of the tragic outcome of illegal violations of traffic laws.
